Frictionless-Checkout App Partners With PDI

Skip connects with PDI’s back-office pricebook software

SALT LAKE CITY — Skip is now fully integrated with PDI’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) product.

The integration connects PDI's back-office pricebook software to Skip's frictionless-checkout technology—a hybrid of mobile pay and Amazon Go's "just walk out" experiences—allowing convenience-store customers to purchase in-store merchandise using their personal mobile devices.

"Our partnership with PDI has been influential to our core business model, and this integration is the start of massive things for Skip, PDI and the c-store industry as a whole," said Chase Thomason, CEO and founder of Skip. "Innovations to drive optimal customer experiences also result in profit-bearing insights for retailers. We can't wait to bring this product and its benefits to our c-store clients starting with Ricker's this month.”

The partnership arrives less than a month after Ricker's tapped Skip for frictionless checkout and Skip integrated with ZipLine’s automated clearing house private-label debit consumer payment platform. Similarly, Amazon recently opened its third Amazon Go location in Seattle and announced plans to eventually open a New York City location. Two other frictionless stores, Zippin and Standard Market, have emerged in San Francisco, and beverage company Dirty Lemon is reportedly opening a cashierless store in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood.

"We are excited to deliver this new interface to Skip's impressive frictionless checkout solution to our customers," said Jim Wade, vice president of product management for PDI. "This most recent expansion of our partner ecosystem combines the power of our back-office solution with Skip to keep pace with the ever-increasing demands of the consumer for a faster, more convenient shopping experience. We look forward to helping our mutual customers realize the benefits of this powerful technology.”

With its international headquarters in Alpharetta, Ga., and its U.S. headquarters in Temple, Texas, PDI works with c-store retailers and petroleum wholesale marketers worldwide with enterprise management software.

Skip, based in Salt Lake City, is an app developer that facilitates frictionless checkout. Customers shopping with participating retailers can scan items they buy through the app, bypassing the checkout line. Skip displays the price of items purchased as customers shop. It also includes built-in coupons and can point shoppers to the location of an in-store item they are looking for.
