Valor Oil-operated Hop Shops convenience stores is introducing Mashgin AI-assisted checkout integrated with Glory’s cash automation technology, delivering an innovative solution designed to make transactions faster, easier and more efficient for customers.

The new technology combines Mashgin’s AI-assisted checkout platform with Glory’s cash automation solution, allowing customers to complete purchases in seconds whether paying with cash or card, the Owensboro, Kentucky-based company said. Glory’s U.S. headquarters are in Lisle, Illinois.

Customers place their items on the checkout tray, where Palo Alto, California-based Mashgin’s computer vision technology recognizes multiple products simultaneously without requiring customers to scan individual barcodes. Glory’s integrated technology then enables fast and secure automated cash payments.

“Together, Mashgin and Glory are helping Hop Shops create what has been called ‘the fastest cash transaction on Earth’—reducing wait times, improving transaction efficiency and creating a more seamless experience for customers,” Hop Shops said.

The investment reflects Hop Shops’ continued commitment to embracing innovative technology while maintaining customer service and personal experience, the company said.

“We were looking to creatively solve competing priorities through technology, which led us to become an early adopter of Mashgin, the world’s fastest AI-assisted checkout system,” said Damon Bail, vice president of retail operations and marketing for Valor Oil and Hop Shops. “I have a deep love for Mashgin and what it has done for our business. It allows us to serve customers faster while giving our team members more opportunities to focus on the customer experience beyond the register.”

Mashgin’s technology uses computer vision to recognize multiple items at once, creating a quick and intuitive checkout experience without requiring customers to individually scan each product.

By integrating Glory’s cash automation technology, Hop Shops can extend that same streamlined experience to customers who prefer to pay with cash, Hop Shops said. The technology automates cash acceptance and dispensing while helping improve accuracy, security and cash management for store teams.

“At Hop Shops, innovation isn’t about replacing the personal side of convenience retail—it’s about using technology to make the experience better for both our customers and our employees,” Bail added. “Our customers want to get in, get what they need and get back on the road. Mashgin and Glory allow us to make that experience even faster and easier.”

The implementation of Mashgin AI-assisted checkout and Glory cash automation technology is another step in Hop Shops’ ongoing investment in technology designed to improve store operations and elevate the customer experience, Hop Shops said.

Hop Shops is a family-owned and operated convenience store chain founded in 1966. It has 12 stores in Kentucky, two in Ohio and one in Indiana, according to the company’s website. Hop Shops is known for creating memorable customer experiences, including its disco bathrooms, where the push of a red button transforms an ordinary restroom into a disco experience complete with lights and music.
