San Francisco-based last-mile delivery service Instacart announced Tuesday the launch of Fizz, a new party supply mobile app for snacks and alcoholic beverages.
The new Fizz App, which is separate from the Instacart app, offers delivery for a flat fee of $5, the company said.
Instacart said the app is also “tailor-made for groups” because of users’ ability to invite friends to the virtual Fizz cart and make their own selections.
The tech company said the app also offers rewards points and makes it easy for multiple parties to pay for what they added to the list without having to split the bill.
Instacart said the orders will be fulfilled at grocery chains like Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Schnucks and Wegmans, among others.
The company has also partnered with mobile party gaming company Partiful, which enables users to play group games using their phones. The Fizz app will be available to Partiful users.
“You and your guests can tap the Fizz link to start stocking up for your party,” Instacart said in the news release.
The move appears to be a challenge to Philadelphia-based delivery service Gopuff, which launched its own group ordering option, GoGroup, in February.
That ordering feature also enables users to invite friends to add items to the order, but owners are charged for the full order.
Go Puff also made headlines on Tuesday with the release of its GoXL service, which offers more than 300 bulk-sized and multi-pack products.
