Kwik Shop Stores Donate $18,000 to Ways to Work

Heartland Family Service program helps working parents build stronger credit

OMAHA, Neb. -- Employees of 24 Kwik Shops in the Omaha, Neb., area donated nearly $18,000 to the Heartland Family Service Ways to Work program, topping their 2010 donation to the program by more than $2,000.

"We thank Kwik Shop regional director Scott Morgaridge and all the Kwik Shop employees for raising funds for the second year to help eligible families get low-interest car loans to help meet their job and family responsibilities," said Jenny Stewart, program director who manages the local Ways to Work program.

Throughout the month of August, Kwik Shop employees asked patrons to donate a dollar with their purchase, held car washes and created pie-in-the-face opportunities to raise funds. Kwik Shop vice president Brian Fisher arranged rewards for stores and employees who raised the most, and store managers eagerly jumped to the challenge.

The stores also distributed materials on the Ways to Work program.

"We at Heartland Family Service are extremely grateful for the thoughtfulness and caring of the Kwik Shop employees and customers," said Jenny Stewart, program director who manages the local Ways to Work program. "We received a record number of inquiries and applications during August. By spreading the word and raising funds, Kwik Shop is helping families build a more secure financial future, and improving our community as well."

Ways to Work helps working parents learn how to build stronger credit by providing low-interest auto loans to those who qualify.

Omaha-based Heartland Family Service is a nonprofit, nonsectarian social work agency; its mission is to strengthen individuals in the community through education, counseling and support services.
