Loop Neighborhood Markets has partnered with Tote to update its stores by adding Genie, an AI agent for store workers, the Redwood City, California-based tech company said.

Since its launch, store associates at Loop Neighborhood Markets have used Genie to handle inquiries on customer service, point-of-sale operations, maintenance and payments, Tote said. Genie operates continuously, supports multiple languages and is accessible through both voice and chat to provide answers.

“We're not interested in AI that just looks good in a pitch. Tote's Genie agent works in our stores, gives our associates the answers they need in the moment, and delivers results from day one,” said Varish Goyal, president and CEO of Loop Neighborhood Markets. “This is just the beginning of what agentic technology can do for our business.”

Tote said Loop Neighborhood Markets deployed Genie independently of their point-of-sale system, bringing AI-native associate support to their stores without overhauling existing technology infrastructure.

"Loop is exactly the kind of operator that makes this work. Varish and his team hold technology to a high standard, and they've pushed us to make Genie genuinely useful at the store level. Deploying with zero escalations and 100% first-contact resolution from day one is not a beta result. That is a production result, and it reflects what AI in convenience retail can actually deliver when it is built the right way," said Shyam Rao, Founder and CEO of Tote.

  • Vintners Distributors/Loop Neighborhood Markets is No. 52 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Loop Neighborhood Markets is a chain of convenience stores in California featuring fresh and healthy products and standard c-store fare. Vintners operates Loop Neighborhood Markets and Poppy Market c-stores, and the rest of its stores are Shell- or Chevron-branded gas stations. The brand is supported by more than 20 fuel tankers that are visible on the highways throughout the Bay Area, where more than 130 company-operated stores are located. The company also operates gas stations and car washes and develops real estate. Vintners has a wholesale division that delivers fuel to about 60 dealer locations in the market, but the company has no other influence on products or operations for those locations.
