Maverik Selects DIRECWAY

packetPointe provides enterprisewide broadband satellite service with HNS, ISD

SALT LAKE CITY -- Hughes Network Systems LLC (HNS) said that packetPointe Communications Inc., an enterprise solutions provider, is providing DIRECWAY broadband satellite services to all 170 Maverik Country Stores Inc. fuel and convenience store locations.

Maverik has also turned to ISD Corp. and packetPointe to consolidate payment processing across its network of stores. The joint ISD and packetPointe solution allows Maverik to realize significant improvements in payment processing costs, transaction speed, operational efficiencies and customer convenience.[image-nocss]

Before selecting DIRECWAY, Maverik researched and tested a number of data connectivity options, including dialup, frame and cable. Satellite proved to be the perfect fit, the tech firm said. Maverik knew from previous experience that the expense of managing multiple broadband vendors was time consuming and resulted in exorbitant costs. The DIRECWAY service has eliminated the complexities of doing business with multiple vendors, streamlined business operations and substantially reduced operational costs, it said.

According to Lynn Call, Maverik's director of information technology, We have a small [IT] shop and could not manage the multiple connections that were essential to establishing a connection with the traditional terrestrial broadband alternatives. packetPointe and HNS came to our rescue with a single, enterprise solution that other providers were unable to offer.

Call also said, We are replacing many of our client-based software systems at each store and porting them over to our company intranet, which will allow us to get data faster and manage the software from a central point. The DIRECWAY system has empowered us to use our company intranet as our primary means of collecting and distributing data; this is a huge benefit to us.

Dave Shiff, HNS vice president of sales, said, Partnering with our enterprise solutions providers is the key to reaching the midsize enterprise. Working closely with them, we are able to effectively reach this important market segment, as well as meet customer demand for a single, enterprise solution.

Customers such as Maverik benefit from our services because of our ability to provide them with voice and data communications solutions that lower their costs, particularly in the areas of transaction processing of credit and store value cards, accessing and transferring backoffice data from remote sites to corporate headquarters, voice services, and long-distance billing, said Robert Burden, packetPointe marketing director.

With the DIRECWAY service, credit card transaction times are significantly reduced, with credit card purchases authorized in four-to-five seconds, down from the minimum of 20 seconds that it previously took. As a result, Maverik has seen a significant decrease in customer wait time and, more importantly, an increase in customer traffic.

The retailer chose to deploy ISD software on an IBM iSeries platform and consolidate a variety of payment types including credit and debit cards, checks, private label cards, phone cards, and fleet cards. Maverik also implemented ISD's Self-Managed Gift Card solution to gain more control over gift card processing and program administration.

Working with ISD and packetPointe, Maverik's credit card processing times were significantly reducedcard purchases are now authorized in four to five seconds, down from a minimum of twenty seconds, the company said. Maverik is also able to self-manage check authorizations and consolidate reporting and settlement across all payment types. Overall, Maverik plans to realize an average $300,000 to $400,000 in processing and communication costs per year by leveraging their enterprise payments and network solution provided by ISD and packetPointe.
