Pilot Co. is rolling out a new digital parking experience for professional drivers.

The system, which the travel center announced on its website Aug. 26, makes reserving and checking in to a parking space safer, faster and more convenient, Knoxville, Tennessee-based Pilot said.

Pilot Prime Parking, which is the travel center’s paid, reserved truck parking service, is moving from paper hang tags to digital check-in through the Pilot app, the company said.

“Using the Pilot app on your phone, you can make and manage your reservation, check in right from your cab and save truck information for future trips,” the company said.

Instead of having to go inside the store to a counter or kiosk to get a hang tag for one’s truck, “You’ll now be able to check in digitally when you arrive at one of Pilot’s more than 900 travel centers across North America,” the company said. “Your license plate information will be used to help verify reservations, making the process simple and quick.”

Drivers now can reserve a Prime Parking space through the Pilot app, the Pilot website, Pilot Guest Services or in-store at the register.

During the reservation process, a driver will be asked to provide his or her truck license plate number.

“While this is not required, your license plate helps us identify your truck during a reservation,” Pilot said. “This improves safety and your overall parking experience.

Once a reservation is complete, a driver receives confirmation that his or her Prime Parking space has been reserved.

When drivers arrive at a travel center, they should open the Pilot app and locate their Prime Parking reservation.

Next, to complete the digital check-in, drivers should follow the prompts in the app to check in to their reserved parking space. No hang tag is required.

“Digital check-in lets you confirm your arrival without leaving your truck, helping save time and making the process safer and more convenient,” Pilot said.

Drivers who don’t have the Pilot app can still make Prime Parking reservations through all existing reservation channels:

  • On the Pilot website
  • Through guest services
  • In-store at the register

“If you arrive at one of our travel centers and haven’t checked in digitally, a store team member will be happy to assist with checking in your reservation,” Pilot said.

Drivers who made a reservation through the Pilot app, website or guest services can review their receipt on the app. In addition, a Pilot store manager can print a receipt for them, Pilot said.

“If you made a reservation in-store, a receipt can be reprinted through a register or self-checkout,” Pilot said.

If a driver made a reservation through the Pilot app, website or guest services, a store manager can process cancellations and refunds for eligible reservations for up to 48 hours after the reservation start time. If a store manager is unavailable, guest services can assist.

“If you made a reservation in-store, refunds can be processed at the travel center following the standard refund process,” Pilot said.

Drivers having trouble should review these common issues:

  • A loyalty number wasn’t entered
  • A reservation already exists for that night
  • Payment wasn’t successfully processed

Pilot Co. is the largest operator of travel centers in North America, with more than 750 locations across 44 states and six Canadian provinces, selling about 14 billion gallons of fuel a year and about $3 billion in food and merchandise.
