Rapid Robert's Betting on Play At The Pump

Missouri retailers using Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Linq3 lottery solution

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Missouri gas station and convenience store retailers including Rapid Robert's are adopting Play At The Pump, Gilbarco Veeder-Root and partner Linq3's technology solution that offers the opportunity for customers to buy lottery tickets directly from the gas pump.

Play At The Pump is a software upgrade to Gilbarco's Passport point of sale (POS) and offers Passport retailers a new way to increase lottery sales and engage consumers. Rapid Roberts, with 20 convenience stores, joins Signal Foods and Fast N Friendly's food marts in the Springfield, Mo., market, which features more than 40 locations offering the new lottery solution.

In addition to Missouri, Play At The Pump is also up and running in Minnesota, with California and North Carolina set to pilot the program by the end of 2014.

"We are excited about the additional lottery ticket sales that Play At The Pump brings to our sites," said Todd Wilson, president of Rapid Robert's Inc., Springfield, Mo. "Gilbarco and Linq3 have taken forecourt innovation to the next level with Play At The Pump, giving us the ability to improve our consumers' experience and make our site a more attractive destination."

The Play At The Pump application allows consumers to play Mega Millions, Powerball and a state jackpot game via the dispenser with a payment card, then have winnings of up to $599 deposited directly back onto the card. Lottery players can have their numbers texted directly to their mobile phone, making it easier to keep track of lottery tickets and get alerts when they have won a prize. There are no payment card fees on the lottery portion for retailers as Linq3 covers that expense. As part of the service, Linq3 interfaces with the various lottery operators while Gilbarco develops the POS software and integrates the technology into the forecourt.

Play At The Pump has shown positive results for retailers who now have a new source of revenue from casual lottery players, who do not normally go inside the store, Gilbarco and Linq3 said. The field-tested solution increases indoor lottery sales by 4% to 5% due to advertising the jackpot levels, they said, and it encourages repeat business through an intuitive consumer experience.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a technology leader for retail and commercial fueling operations. It offers a broad range of integrated solutions from the forecourt to the convenience store and head office.
