Schaninger Launches Consulting Venture

Former QuickChek executive is staying in the industry

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. -- John Schaninger, a veteran retailer and former vice president of sales and marketing at QuickChek Corp., has formed a retail consulting firm, The Schaninger Group.

The Bucks County, Pa.-based company is focused on marketing strategy and planning, foodservice management, advertising and media planning and store planning and layout.

“I am absolutely thrilled to begin this new adventure, working with retailers to achieve long-term traffic, sales, loyalty and profits, and get to the next level,” said Schaninger.

Schaninger will make use of his 40 years in the convenience industry, along with the knowledge and experience of his team, to offer custom designed and collaborative strategies, plans and programs for c-store retailers.

His firm targets convenience retailers with store counts between 10 and 100. The Schaninger Group starts with an analysis of the current results, concerns and areas of growth in clients’ businesses. Then it works with clients to develop a plan built on long-term marketing strategies. The firm refines and implements the strategy to drive profitability and measures the results of the work, according to the company website.

Schaninger left QuickChek in March to pursue other interests.

Before joining QuickChek, Schaninger worked in his family’s grocery business. He then joined QuickChek in 1978 as an assistant manager, and later became regional district leader and then vice president of operations. The company named him vice president of sales and marketing in 2004, where he stayed until his recent departure.

Schaninger is succeeded at Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based QuickChek by former Rite Aid and H-E-B executive Rob Easley, who joined the company in February under the new position of senior vice president of merchandising and marketing. Easley comes with nearly 25 years of retail experience, including 16 years with San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B. He was also COO of Camp Hill, Pa.-based drug-store chain Rite Aid; Lenexa, Kan.-based Westlake Ace Hardware; and Fletcher, N.C.-based natural and organic food retailer Earth Fare.
