Convenience-store chain Sheetz is debuting a custom Sheetz map in the Fortnite video-game universe. The “Sheetz Run: Only Up!” map allows players to take their characters on a “Sheetz Run.”

  • Sheetz is No. 13 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Available now, the Sheetz Fortnite immersive experience starts in a Sheetz parking lot, and then players can step into a Sheetz store to be launched into a world crafted entirely from Sheetz products. From there, players can jump over made-to-order sandwiches, climb mountains of curly fries, take a dip in Sheetz Boom Boom sauce and swim through soda straws, all while racing toward victory.

“As a company, our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are always looking for innovative ways to engage with our Sheetz Freakz and expand our reach,” said Ryan Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing and supply chain at Sheetz. “This opportunity allows us to amplify our brand to individuals worldwide and connect with a new generation of players, showcasing our brand in a fun, adventurous and immersive way. I can't wait to dive into this map with my character while snacking on some epic made-to-order food.”

The gaming studio that connects brands to creators within Fortnite, Umi Games, facilitated the inclusion.

To celebrate the launch of the game, Sheetz is kicking off a month-long “Sheetz Run: Only Up!” challenge with a $25,000 prize pool at stake. From Jan. 24 to Feb. 23, Fortnite players can record their quickest runs and submit them to the UMI Games Discord server. The players with the 25 fastest “Sheetz Runs” by the end of the challenge will split a prize pool of $25,000.

This is in addition to the My Sheetz Rewardz loyalty program, which includes three tiers: Fan, Friend and Freak. Members receive more discounts for when they earn a higher tier status. Sheetz offers points for purchases, monthly offers and savings at the pump.

This Sheetz gamification comes at a time when several convenience stores are offering games to loyalty members for the chance to win greater rewards. New York-based retail-technology firm Coresight Research revealed that in 2025, gamification will continue to trend and expand. In 2024, the c-store chains below launched gamification opportunities.

  • TXB, Spicewood, Texas, launched challenges within its app, which benefits TXB Stores in customer retention and increased sales and provides valuable data insights.
  • Alon and DK, fuel suppliers for Delek Branded Wholesale, Brentwood, Tennessee, held a summer promotion where customers could play a mobile game to win gift cards, and one player won a new Chevrolet Camaro.
  • Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Oklahoma City, is investing more than $2 million in the next five years to install gamification technology across its locations for employees. Monitors will track employees’ key performance metrics in real-time, such as greet times, order processing times, the time it takes for food handoff and the number of cars that get through the drive-thru each hour.

Altoona, Pennsylvania-based Sheetz has more than 750 convenience stores in in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Maryland.
