Speedway SuperAmerica Raises $4.5 Million for CMN in '09

Retailer is charity's largest c-store industry contributor, group says
ENON, Ohio -- Speedway SuperAmerica LLC (SSA) raised approximately $4.5 million to Children's Miracle Network hospitals in 2009, helping to propel the company to a total contribution of $34 million since 1991, Children's Miracle Network has announced.

The 2009 donations were up 50% from 2008 contributions, marking the third consecutive year that Speedway SuperAmerica has achieved double-digit increases in its fundraising for children's hospitals. SSA is the largest contributor to Children's Miracle Network from the convenience store industry, the organization said.

"[image-nocss] Even during a difficult economic climate, Speedway SuperAmerica employees continue to embrace the idea of giving back to their communities," said Scott Burt, president and CEO of Children's Miracle Network, Salt Lake City.

Speedway SuperAmerica raises funds through turnkey programs provided by Children's Miracle Network such as canister campaigns, grassroots fundraising activities, employee payroll deduction programs and an annual corporate golf tournament.

"Our tremendous fundraising results over the past few years are a testament to the generosity of our customers and vendor partners fueled by the energy of our employees for this very worthwhile cause."

Children's Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals. Each year the 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind.

Speedway SuperAmerica, headquartered in Enon, Ohio, is the nation's third largest company-owned and operated convenience store chain and the largest in the Midwest with approximately 1,600 stores located in nine states. Most of the stores are operated under the Speedway and SuperAmerica brand names. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corp.
