SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A total of 1,440 checks, amounting to $1.34 million in grants, have been mailed to nonprofit organizations receiving Stewart's Holiday Match funds, the retailer has announced. The money, contributed by customers and matched by the company, will assist local children's charities in the 30 counties where Stewart's Shops operates.
"In difficult economic times our customers once again showed how much they care about the children's organizations in their communities," said Susan Dake, Stewart's Foundation president. "This year's customer contributions, plus the company match, bring the Holiday Match total contributions to over $17 million in the 26-year history."
Since 1986, Stewart's has been collecting customer donations from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day. It matches the donations with 100% of the funds returning to the communities in which the shops are located. There are no administrative costs and 100% of the funds collected and matched benefit the communities that have made this program so successful.
The company credits the success of the program to their customers, dedicated shop partners who worked diligently to collect the funds and the media partners who helped spread the word throughout its regions: YNN/Time Warner Cable, B95.5, WNYF Fox 28, WWNY 7 News, Froggy 107.1, Big Frog 104, Lite 98.7, WIBX, Froggy 97, Z93, Mix 96.1, WPDH 101.5, Mix 97, The Wolf 94.3 and WKNY 1490am.
Giving is part of the company's culture. Stewart's Shops has maintained its annual budget of $2.25 million for charitable contributions in 2013, which includes the company's $672,000 in matching funds for Holiday Match.
