Stewart's Spreads the Love

Retailer rolls out wedding contest; receives community honors
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart's Shops has launched its "Love is in the Air" promotion. On its website, www.stewartsshops.com, the retailer asks: "Did you meet and fall in love with your significant other at a Stewart's Shop? Are you two planning on getting married this year? If so, why not get married at your favorite Stewart's Shop? Our 'Love is in the Air' contest includes an outdoor wedding and reception for 25 guests at the Stewart's Shop of your choice, catering by Stewart's, limo service, flowers, music and a [image-nocss] cake. We'll even throw in your favorite ice cream! Prize package also includes a three night stay in beautiful Lake Placid, N.Y., and $100 in Stewart's gift certificates."

The retailer asks customers to email their stories to loveisintheair@stewartsshops.com. Entry's must include why they would like to be married at Stewart's and at which Stewart's Shop they would like to be married. They must also select a wedding date between June 1, 2009, and Oct. 1, 2009. Deadline for submission is April 19, 2009. One couple will be chosen the week of May 4, 2009, the company said.

In other company news, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart's Shops has been selected as this year's Outstanding Business by the Fulton County Economic Development Corp. Stewart's representative Linda Lambo accepted this year's award on behalf of her company. "It's always great to be honored and to be recognized in the community," she said.

Stewart's volunteers got involved by scooping ice cream at the annual South High Marathon Dance in Glens Falls, N.Y. Students in grades 9 to 12 danced for 27 hours, raising more than $260,000 for 22 causes and individuals in need. The students of South Glens Falls High School hosted the 32nd Annual South High Marathon Dance in the school gym on March 6-7, 2009.

Many Stewart's volunteers were on location scooping more than 1,100 cones for this event. By the end of the event, the Stewart's ice cream booth contributed proceeds totaling $2,375 to the $260,000 grand total raised.

And Stewart's Shops was also honored for participating in the Schenectady City Winter Fest Chili Challenge in February. Stewart's Shop manager Charlie Bloomer accepted a plaque and a certificate of recognition on behalf of Stewart's Shops for winning the "People's Choice Award" at the Chili challenge. The chain sells 119,000 half gallons of chili a year, it said.
