Wal-Mart Opens ‘Scan-and-Go’ Concept

Unit leans on technology on the heels of Amazon’s smart c-store test

TOMBALL, Texas -- Wal-Mart’s new Supercenter in Tomball, Texas, incorporates the company’s rollout of mobile scanning technology.

Shoppers have the option to scan items away from the checkout counter using the Wal-Mart Scan & Go app on their mobile devices while shopping in the store. The tool allows customers to pay instantly and leave without waiting in the checkout line.

Other store amenities include a free drive-thru grocery pickup service and the first Chobani Cafe outside of New York.
