Rutter’s regularly updates its fountain offer to keep customers engaged. Over the past year, it introduced a craft beverage line and rotated new options into its offering.

“This year’s craft line includes real-sugar options like Pineapple Cream Soda and Strawberry Soda,” says Chad White, foodservice category supervisor of dispensed beverages for the York, Pa.-based retailer. The beverages are made with cane sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) or artificial sweeteners.

To satisfy drinkers of noncarbonated beverages, Rutter’s offers lemonade and its private-brand tea. And as a healthy option, the chain prepares made-to-order smoothies in eight varieties, featuring fresh berries.

“This hits on healthy and are for customers who are still looking for a snack option,” says White, who points out that the smoothies contain no artificial flavors or HFCS.

Local also gets a nod. In October 2018, Rutter’s added a local apple cider to coolers and in its restaurant, in both hot and cold varieties. “We have an Apple Cider Frappe as a main local option,” White says.
