Kretek International Inc., maker of Djarum Black filtered clove cigars, has launched Djarum Black Bliss tobacco- and nicotine-free clove smokes.

Djarum Black Bliss comes in four styles: Emerald, Ivory, Ruby and Original. The cigarette-style smokes are available in 20-packs at convenience stores and tobacco shops in California. Retailers and distributors in New England can order Djarum Black Bliss for shipment starting in March.

“Djarum spent close to two years creating an all-natural blend to give loyal clove smokers the same full taste and aroma they love, but with zero nicotine,” Kretek President Sean Cassar said. “Our goal is to make sure our clove consumers continue to enjoy full-flavored Djarum clove taste wherever they shop. We don’t want our customers to miss a step along the way to non-tobacco flavors.”

The line was created using sliced Indonesian cloves and all-natural, hemp-free botanicals to deliver an authentic clove taste in a nicotine- and tobacco-free blend, Kretek said. Consumer research and taste trials showed the clove taste and aroma that Darjum smokers enjoy is more important than the nicotine content in their smoke, according to the company.

Moorpark, Calif.-based Kretek, an importer, marketer and distributor of specialty tobacco products, is parent company to Phillips and King International and TMG.
