LAKEVILLE, Minn. —State tobacco-related legislative bills that have been acted on by a state legislative committee or state legislature are listed below alphabetically:
Hawaii: On June 27, Gov. David Ige notified the legislature that he intends to veto House Bill 1570, which, beginning Jan. 1, 2023, would ban the sale of flavored tobacco products except those having received a marketing order from the FDA. Ige has until July 12 to make a final decision on whether to veto the bill.
Iowa: The General Assembly adjourned the 2022 session on May 25.
Michigan: Senate Bill 720, which as substituted, modifies the definition of “cigarette” for taxation and regulatory purposes to include both combusted and heated products and provides that if a modified risk tobacco product order has been issued, the tax will be 50% of the otherwise applicable rate, remains eligible for the governor as of June 30.
New Jersey: Senate Bill 305, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products and electronic smoking devices at pharmacies, reported favorably from the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee on June 6. The bill was subsequently referred to the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.
