LAS VEGAS — Karl Malone, twice named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, will address tobacco enthusiasts at the upcoming Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE), himself having helped promote his daughter’s cigar-and-vape-retail business and, in a separate endeavor, co-developed a premium cigar.

To be held Jan. 29-31, 2020, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, TPE will feature dozens of alternative-tobacco manufacturer exhibits, as well as educational sessions on vaping, cannabis and other tobacco products (OTP), organizers say.

Keynote speaker NBA All-Star Karl Malone was the league’s second all-time leading scorer, a two-time Olympic champion and twice the recipient of the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award. He developed a premium cigar using tobacco aged in rum barrels in collaboration with Guillermo Leon Herbert, the owner of La Aurora, Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, and assisted his daughter, Kadee Malone, who owns Legends Cigar & Vape, Ruston, La.

One of the other participating organizations at the show will be NATO, a tobacco retailing association based in Lakeville, Minn. For its part, NATO is presenting sessions on legislative and sales trends relative to the tobacco industry.

“Educational sessions will be … informative, engaging and feature a diverse lineup of speakers and experts that will leave attendees feeling inspired, invigorated and ready to take on the rest of 2020 with excitement and the knowledge needed to be successful in business,” said Antoine Reid, senior editor and digital content director for Tobacco Media Group in affiliation with Moorpark, Calif.-based Kretek International.
