MFA Oil Co. is a farmer-owned cooperative with more than 40,000 members that was organized in 1929 by Missouri farmers who were seeking assurance of a reliable and quality supply of fairly priced petroleum products. The company has been serving local consumers' needs since that time, becoming the largest supplier of propane in Missouri and creating the Break Time convenience stores in 1985 through its subsidiary, MFA Petroleum, which also operates the Big O Tire and Jiffy Lube franchises in mid-Missouri.

These c-stores sell private-label water, coffee and sandwiches. About a half-dozen locations have car-wash facilities. The stores added a loyalty program in 2013, licensing the Connect smartphone platform from VERGE Retail. The loyalty features built into the Break Time app reward c-store customers each time they use their iPhone or Android to check in at a store.

The company's tagline is "The company that lives where you do."
