Buchanan Energy owned and operated a family-owned and -operated chain of convenience stores and gas stations under the Bucky's brand until May 14. In November, Casey's General Stores announced that it would acquire Buchanan Energy for $580 million, including its retail sites and 79 dealer locations. The transaction officially closed in May. The company operated 56 Bucky's locations in Illinois and 26 in Nebraska, as well as five in Iowa, four in Texas and three in Missouri.
The stores average 3,000 square feet and offer grab-and-go and ready-to-eat food, with full kitchens at newer locations. They also offer windshield-washer fluid and motor oil. In addition to the c-stores, the company has a wholesale fuel supply and transport division. About 90% of the sites feature automated car washes.
