Family-owned Krist Oil began in 1917 with the purchase of a candy store in Caspian in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and a tavern in 1933. It has become one of the largest gasoline and diesel distributors in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, with one location in Minnesota.

At the beginning of the year, the chain had 78 stores. It opened a new location in early 2025 and was scheduled to open another by the summer.

Its Krist Food Marts are large convenience stores that serve a mix of commuters and neighborhoods. Standout categories include tobacco, with stores featuring a 16-linear-feet set stocked with cigarettes, other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaping products. Packaged beverages, snacks, candy and grocery are other big categories.

Foodservice consists of prepackaged and hot to-go breakfast sandwiches and pizza.

The chain has the Krist Rewards loyalty program and mobile app with digital punch cards, coupons and daily deals. Krist Oil also offers home heating fuel, liquid propane gas and bulk fuel delivery.

For benchmarking purposes, store counts are as of Jan. 1, 2025.
