Wawa entered West Virginia on Thursday with the opening of its store in Inwood. West Virginia is the convenience-store chain’s 13th state.

It is located about 175 miles from the company's base in Wawa, Pennsylvania.

The convenience-store chain plans to open three-to-five new Wawa stores in the Berkeley and Jefferson County markets over the next three-to-five years.

To build each store, Wawa will invest approximately $7.5 million and employ, on average, 140 contractors and local partners. Once open, each store will employ an average of 35 associates, with Wawa expecting to create approximately 250 long-term new jobs as a result of expansion in West Virginia.

The chain is also building stores in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia.

Wawa is a family-owned chain with more than 1,100 convenience retail stores operating in 13 states and Washington, D.C.
