What Wine Sold Best on Valentine’s Day?

BOSTON — Wine proved to be a popular gift on Valentine’s Day, according to alcohol delivery company Drizly.

On Valentine’s Day, 46% of sales were wine, followed by liquor at 42%, beer at 10% and other items at 2%, according to Drizly. Compared to Valentine’s Day prior, wine was down 1 percentage point from 47% in 2021, but up from 44% in 2020.

Wine also led gift sales on the holiday, with 20% share of wine sales attributed to gift order. Red wine accounted for 40% share of wine sales on the app, and within the red category, the top selling varieties were Cabernet Sauvignon.

Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Champagne was the No. 1 wine SKU this year on Valentine’s Day, followed by La Marca Prosecco. Other products that saw year-over-year gains or were new entrants to the top 10 wine SKUs on Valentine’s Day 2022 were:

  • 19 Crimes Cali Red Snoop Dogg
  • Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut Champagne  
  • Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon  
  • Whispering Angel Rosé

The champagne and sparkling wine category saw declines year-over-year on the holiday, accounting for 28% share compared to 31% in 2021.
