7-Eleven Inc. takes the fool’s gold medal this year for the best April Fools’ Day prank. The Irving, Texas-based convenience-store chain’s tease of the release of details on the availability of Big Bite Hot Dog Sparkling Water had social media abuzz about whether the product was real or a joke. CSP speculated that it was both, and we were right.

As promised, the retailer updated its press release today:

“UPDATE – APRIL 1, 2024: April Fools! We admit that we created a limited supply of 7-Select Big Bite Hot Dog Sparkling Water as a joke, but it sounds like there might be more people out there than we anticipated who want to see our Big Bite Hot Dogs as a beverage. If you or someone you know supports Big Bite Hot Dog Sparkling Water, make yourselves known and we’ll see what we can do! For everyone else, you can find other flavors of 7-Select x Miracle Seltzer sparkling waters and Big Bite Hot Dogs (in their delicious traditional form) at 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes stores nationwide.”

Fool’s Paradise

Meanwhile, as expected, social media was full of fake foolish folderol foisted upon us by convenience-store chains. Here is a random sampling of some of the April Fools’ Day frivolity that CSP found on April 1:
