Convenience retailer Maverik opened its 400th store on Jan. 27 in Magna, Utah, continuing its regional expansion.

Chuck Maggelet, Maverik president and chief adventure guide, spoke at the grand opening, which included a ribbon cutting, politicians, customer festivities and giveaways and a $10,000 donation to local charity partner Magna Families, Agencies and Communities Together (F.A.C.T). The donation will help local families and individuals with food, clothing, personal hygiene and other social services.

Bree Ballard, store director, told CSP that the convenience store, in a Salt Lake City suburb, is in an excellent location because it gets business and residential customers.

“It’s the perfect mixture,” Ballard said, adding that in the first days of being open, they have received a lot of support from residents and local businesses.“They’ve been introducing themselves and letting us know if they’ll be regulars,” she said. “The Magna police have stopped in to say hello. We feel part of the community.”

  • Maverik is No. 22 on CSP’s 2022 Top 202 list of biggest U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

At the event, Mayor of Magna Dan Peay said, “Since Maverik’s first stores opened in Utah in the late 1950s, Maverik has become a statewide standard in convenience, employer of choice and strong community partner, now operating 175 stores across Utah. “We’re thrilled to commemorate its 400th store in our close Magna community.”

Maverik has stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The newest Maverik, with more than 5,000 square feet, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It features certified truck scales, truck and RV lanes, an RV dump, picnic area, assisted-checkout registers and a full lineup of fresh made-to-order food offerings. The store serves its fresh-made BonFire food, which includes burritos, tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, salads, pizza and more. Maverik’s bean-to-cup coffee program showcases coffee blends from around the world.

Family owned and operated since 1928, Maverik will serve customers heading to nearby outdoor activities and attractions, the company said. Panoramic photos and maps of Utah’s outdoor destinations are on the store’s walls, alongside adventure videos playing on TVs, gas pumps and soda fountains.

Focused on education, local hunger and outdoor enrichment, Maverik is dedicated to giving back to areas where it operates. Last year, Maverik donated more than $470,000 to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization, to help support food banks across its 12 operating states in addition to donating more than 420,000 meals through recovering more than 500,000 pounds of surplus food through its food waste reduction program.
