A Peek at Dollar General’s Latest DGX ‘C-Store’

CLEVELAND — Dollar General opened its newest DGX concept store in the Playhouse Square District in Cleveland on June 20. It is one of 10 new DGX locations planned for 2019.

The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based company operates approximately 15,600 dollar stores in 44 states.

Here's a look inside DGX Cleveland …

The new store offers urban consumers a convenient retail space with items geared toward immediate consumption, including amenities such as a soda fountain and a coffee station.

The new store also has grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, fruit and beverages.

The store also has an expanded health and beauty section, a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen and refrigerated food offerings, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products and home cleaning supplies.

The store also features items not typically found in “quick trip” stores, including what the company calls a “carefully edited” assortment of home decor, electronics and seasonal offerings. The store's checkout lane is geared toward a high-volume store with the goal of providing a quick and easy checkout for customers, the company said.

The discount chain opened its first new small-format DGX store (pictured above) in Nashville on Jan. 20, 2017. The store was the fourth DGX since the company unveiled the convenience-store-like concept in fall 2016. Along with the new Cleveland location, Dollar General's other three DGX stores are in Nashville; Raleigh, N.C.; and Philadelphia.
