Rutter’s Opens Its First C-Store in West Virginia

‘We go where our customers take us,’ Pennsylvania-based chain said

INWOOD, W.Va. -- Rutter’s opened its 70th convenience store—its first outside of Pennsylvania—in Inwood, W.Va., on May 30.

At 9,185 square feet, the location is one of Rutter’s largest. It has 14 fueling stations and seven dedicated high-speed diesel truck bays. The c-store features Rutter’s food and beverage menu, a dining area with room to seat 30 guests, free Wi-Fi and more. It also has a “29-Degree Cold Beer Cave” and expects approval to sell wine soon.

The new Rutter’s will employ 50 people and operate 24 hours a day.

“We are excited to introduce our brand into new markets and new states this year. We have had many customers reach out and ask for Rutter’s in the West Virginia area, and we are finally able to do so this year,” said Derek Gaskins, Rutter’s chief customer officer.

More Mountain State Rutter’s c-stores are coming.

“We do plan to open more stores in West Virginia as we see fit. Additionally, we will be opening our first store in Maryland later this year in late summer or early fall. We had stores in Maryland, but closed them a while ago,” Rutter's Marketing Coordinator Kirsten Stanley recently told CSP Daily News. “This is our return to retail growth outside of Pennsylvania. We go where our customers take us. We have customers requesting for us [to build] in these other states, including West Virginia, and it is a great way to grow a brand outside of our home state of Pennsylvania.”

York, Pa.-based Rutter's, formerly Rutter's Farm Stores, has more than 60 c-stores in central Pennsylvania. The company ranked No. 92 on CSP's2017 Top 202 list of the largest chains in the United States.
