YORK, Pa. — Rutter’s has boosted its starting wage in store to $16 per hour, the convenience-store retailer’s third time increasing wages in 2021 and fifth time in two years, it said, a more than 40% increase in wages since December 2019.
Rutter’s team members and field employees will see a wage increase, with full-time team members earning more than $33,000 a year. The company also has increased average wages for employees at its corporate headquarters in York, Pa., by 10%, it said.
“At Rutter’s, we believe in recognizing the hard work and dedication our fantastic employees,” said Suzanne Cramer, Rutter’s vice president of human resources. “We’re thrilled to increase our wages again for our team members and field employees, and want to thank them for their efforts that continue to make Rutter’s an industry leader.”

Privately held Rutter’s has 79 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. Part of a family managed group of companies, Rutter’s includes c-stores, a dairy and beverage company and a real estate company. With roots dating back to 1747, Rutter’s 274-year history makes it the oldest vertically integrated food company in the United States, it said.
