In the first month of opening its public indoor electric-vehicle (EV) charging station in San Francisco, Electrify America has seen high use and received positive feedback and strong community support, affirming the demand for larger stations in urban areas.

The site, located two blocks from the Bay Bridge at 928 Harrison St., received more than 8,000 charging sessions, enabling nearly 1 million electric miles and saving nearly 40,000 gallons of gas in its first month, according to Electrify America.

The station, which opened Feb. 9, offers drivers a temperature-controlled charging space with 20 hyper-fast chargers balanced to provide up to 350 kilowatts, two lounge areas with food and beverage vending options, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and two restrooms with baby changing stations. It’s open all day, every day with around-the-clock monitoring and security.

“We're committed to making EVs accessible to all, particularly in dense urban areas like San Francisco,” said Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America. “Our expertise in building over 250 stations in California and more than 900 in North America uniquely positions us to bring high-quality charging infrastructure directly into communities where people live and work and support EV adoption across the state.”

In 2022, Electrify America introduced The Charging Station of the Future, Today—a design concept to create comfortable spaces focused on enhancing the EV driver experience. The Electrify America team leading the station design vision has integrated in-depth customer feedback and insights from trend research and leading architecture and construction consultants to increase the focus in bringing human-centered and unique community-centric design strategies to the charging experience.

Electrify America already has outdoor flagship charging stations in Baker and Santa Clara, California, that have ten or more chargers.

The station on Harrison Street is the first station in the Electrify America network to reflect its strategy to build larger stations to meet the growing demand of EV drivers. Electrify America will continue this transition with new flagship charging facilities planned in metro areas nationwide, it said.
