Warner Candy Acquires Hyde & Hyde's Confectionary Biz

Includes repackager's Snak-Stop brand

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. -- Warner Candy Co. has purchased Hyde & Hyde's confectionary business including the Snak-Stop brand of candies. Based in Corona, California, Hyde & Hyde is a candy repackager providing candy providing candy in 99-cent, 2/$1.00 and 2/$3.00 price points. Hyde & Hyde also packs a variety of private-label programs that are custom built for retailers.

This acquisition is consistent with our strategy to become a premier national supplier of repackaged confections, said Mike Halverson, president of Warner Candy Co., Elk [image-nocss] Grove Village, Ill. It also expands our customer base and provides us with the volume needed to compete in an ever increasingly competitive marketplace. We're very excited about the synergy and growth potential that has been created by combining these businesses together.

Since industry veteran Mike Halverson and a Chicago-based investment group acquired the company in May 2003, Warner Candy has grown through the acquisition of Gateway Candy of St. Louis and Family Sweets of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Warner Candy has been a provider of packaged candies and nuts since 1927, and the company is doing everything necessary to position itself for long-term growth, it said. The company recently invested in a new repackaging and headquarters facility in Elk Grove Village, west of Chicago, to support the nationwide growth of its brands, including Warner's, Grab Pak, Universal, Gateway, Las Palmas and several private-label brands.
