Dari Mart Gives Away Free Skim Milk

Ice cream production created excess supply

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- The first 100 people at the flagship Dari Mart convenience store in Junction City, Ore., on Wednesday received a free gallon of Lochmead Farms milk, reported KVAL-TV (watch the embedded report below).

After the 100 gallons are given away, the retailer reduced the price of remaining gallons of skim milk to two gallons for $3.99, or a single gallon for $2.49. There was no cost or obligation and there was a limit of one gallon of skim milk per family.

Other Dari Mart stores across the region will also offer the milk at a discount, said the report.

"We have too much skim milk and want to help local families by giving it away for free,"

Kathy Gibson, Dari Mart's marketing manager, told the news outlet. "Summer ice cream season started earlier than normal because of May's beautiful weather. Our ice cream production process creates lots of skim milk and right now we have excess inventory."

She added, "We've been part of the community for generations and when opportunities like this arise, we like to giveback to the area that's supported our family dairy and business for so long," Gibson said.

Dari Mart's Lochmead Farms is a locally owned dairy in Junction City. Bottled milk reaches customers within 48 hours of milking.

Junction City-based Dari Mart has 44 locations, all in the state of Oregon.
