This store will be the first of at least several QuikTrip locations in the Tucson market, said the report. QuikTrip has been purchasing sites across the valley, it added. Tucson is the second largest city in the state after Phoenix.[image-nocss]
"We have a lot of experience from watching the Phoenix market," Thornbrugh said. "We think the opportunity is for us to get in, carve out a niche and secure a pretty good market share for us. It's just a natural fit."
The Tulsa, Okla.-based company has about 70 locations in the Phoenix market and has made a name for not only its large convenience stores, but also its fresh food. Each store comes with a commissary where food is made daily.
In Phoenix, pay for full-time night assistants starts at $10.67 per hour, QuikTrip said on its website. The company offers health benefits, a 401(k) match, profit sharing and an employee stock option. "We think that's what separates us from anybody else," Thornbrugh said.
Thornbrugh declined to comment on future plans in the Tucson market, only to say that QuikTrip is very patient about finding its locations. "People in today's world are very, very, very busy," he told the newspaper. "You can park right at the front door. You are in a hurry to get somewhere and get what you need, and that's kind of what we're all about. Get you in, get you out as fast as you can."
