Subway Milestones

Chain now has 3,400 c-store, truckstop outlets

MILFORD, Conn. -- From Alabama to Australia and Singapore to Saskatchewan, the Subway restaurant chain has opened 325 new locations and reached the milestone of 27,000 open and operating locations worldwide in the first two months of 2007, it said.

The Subway chain currently has more than 6,500 outlets in other countries, including the milestone of the 1,000th location in Australia. Now Subway has more locations in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia than McDonalds, said the company. Other recent milestones include the opening of the 800[image-nocss] th Subway restaurant in Ontario and the United Kingdom and the 100th location in Venezuela.

Also, the chain passed the 1,000 mark in the states of Illinois and New York. In January, the Subway chain opened its second kosher location in North America in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, the first of its kind on the East Coast. There are plans for at least a dozen more kosher Subway restaurants to open around the country by the end of the year, the company said.

In other news, a recent study by Decision Analyst Inc. and the Hypothesis Group named the Subway chain as one of the top three restaurant choices of kids age 6 to 17. In addition, the Subway brand was named by Sandelman & Associates as the No. 1 provider of healthful foods in their most recent Quick Track research report, and Subway was also given the highest ratings for customer service in Corporate Research International's latest Real People Ratings survey.

Finally, Subway now has more than 6,300 nontraditional outlets in places such as airports, amusement parks, convenience stores, grocery stores and hospitals. The total number of Subway restaurants at c-stores, truckstops and rest areas around the world is now more than 3,400.
