TA's Full-Service Restaurants Get 'Fit Friendly'

Travel centers offering new "Stay Fit with Flavor" menu items
WESTLAKE, Ohio -- This month, TravelCenters of America (TA) executive chef Thomas Straub introduces four "flavorful and fit-friendly" menu items to the TA full-service restaurants. Introduced under the banner of "Stay Fit with Flavor," these meals were created to offer less than 600 calories each. The items include Shrimp Stir Fry, Chicken Stir Fry, a Grilled Chicken Breast Dinner served with wild rice and a classic grilled chicken sandwich.

"Drivers have told us in our many Driver's Councils that they want healthier options in our restaurants," said Tom O'Brien, CEO of [image-nocss] the Westlake, Ohio-based travel center company. "Because we directly operate our own full-service restaurants, our executive chef is able to respond quickly to the needs and requests of drivers."

The introductory Stay Fit with Flavor menu items are available at the more than 100 TA restaurants, primarily operating under the Country Pride name for a limited time.

"If drivers like the new menu items, we will continue developing more fit-friendly options in the future," said Straub.

In other company news, TA has announced a comprehensive set of initiatives to help drivers adapt to the new, important safety and inspection standards, commonly referred to as "CSA 2010," at all TA Truck Service and Petro:Lube locations.

A comprehensive set of industry leading manuals about CSA 2010, produced by J.J. Keller, outline the new standards and are available for purchase at all locations.

Every TA Truck Service and Petro:Lube location will conduct "training days" for drivers from mid-July through November for drivers. Every Thursday at 2:00 p.m. local time, informational videos will air detailing the new CSA 2010 standards. These 20-minute videos will be followed by opportunity for drivers to submit feedback.

TA and Petro locations now offer a new inspection service specifically designed to focus to areas vital to a good CSA 2010 rating.

Ara Bagdasarian, executive vice president of truck service for TA, said, "TA is uniquely positioned to offer information and technical services as the industry adapts to CSA 2010 standards, because we operate the largest independent chain of truck maintenance facilities on the interstate. We have prepared for the new CSA 2010 standards for nearly a year, carefully planning programs in conjunction with individual drivers and many of the most respected fleets in the trucking industry and training all of our staff to provide those programs. Thousands of hours of classroom training and development time were committed to ensure that the right information and services could be brought to our fleet and independent customers alike."

TA Truck Service and Petro:Lube offer maintenance services and light-truck repair for all heavy-duty Class 6-7-8 trucks. Combined they are the largest non-OEM independent truck service chain on the interstate. They offer more than 1,000 service bays, more than 2,600 highly trained technicians (more than 1,700 ASE certified) and more than 400 RoadSquad roadside assistance trucks for the benefit of their customers.

TravelCenters of America LLC is a leading travel center business in 41 states and Canada operating under the TravelCenters of America and Petro brands. With convenient locations on interstate exits, TA and Petro offers their customers diesel and gasoline fueling services, full-service and quick-service restaurants, heavy-truck maintenance services, 24-hour convenience stores, electronic communication (WiFi) and other services, all within large, high-traffic facilities.
