LACONIA, N.H. -- To mark the grand opening of the company's newest convenience store and gas station, in The Weirs in Laconia, N.H., Cumberland Farms presented a $1,000 donation to support the Laconia Police Department and its Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, which is designed to provide young students with education and resources about drug resistance.
Cumberland Farms presented an oversized check to Officer Don Kimtis, who heads Laconia's DARE effort, added a report by The Citizen of Laconia. Kimtis said the money will be used to buy [image-nocss] graduation gifts for the boys and girls who complete the 10-week DARE course. Laconia Police offers the DARE program in all of the city's public and private elementary schools.
The store is the city's second "Cumby's," said the report.
"We welcome everyone to the store. Come in and check us out," Deane Palmer, who is Cumberland Farms' area sales manager for northern New Hampshire, told the newspaper. "We have the hottest coffee in town."
The Laconia store will be open from 5:00 a.m. to midnight everyday and will have 12 gasoline pumps. The store itself will cover 2,900 square feet and will feature the company's trademark Chill Zone frozen beverage station, as well a 12-flavor coffee bar.
Cumberland Farms' network of retail stores, gas stations and a support system including petroleum, dairy and grocery distribution operations spans 11 states across the Northeast and Florida. It has approximately 1,000 outlets, including Gulf and Exxon branded outlets.
Through its Corporate Giving Program for Youth, the Canton, Mass., company is working to improve the prospects for young people, to encourage and support young people's achievements in business and leadership and to provide educational opportunities for young people. The chain is sponsors 4-H, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Making Strides for Breast Cancer and provides college scholarships. In addition to annual corporate contributions, Cumberland Farms is active at the local level, building awareness and supporting worthy organizations in the communities where we live and work.
