Giant Pharmacy Purchases Earn Gas Rewards

Offering one point for each dollar spent

LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food of Landover, Md. has announced that pharmacy purchases will now accumulate points for the popular Gas Rewards program. All purchases made in Giant pharmacies in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia (excluding Charlottesville) and Delaware will earn one Gas Rewards point for every dollar spent, enabling customers to further save on fuel at participating Shell stations.

For every 100 Gas Rewards points earned when shopping at Giant, customers can save 10 cents per gallon instantly on their next fuel purchase at more than 400 participating Shell [image-nocss] stations, up to 35 gallons per purchase. Points can also be redeemed at Giant gas stations.

"We're very excited, for the first time, to offer rewards points on pharmacy purchases. Our Gas Rewards program furthers our commitment to helping our customers stretch their budgets during these difficult economic times," said Dain Rusk, director of pharmacy operations for Giant Food. "This is in addition to other ways Giant pharmacies help our customers such as providing free antibiotics for 14 days to customers who present prescriptions from their physicians as well as up to a 90-day supply of the most commonly prescribed generic medications for a guaranteed price of $9.99."

Customers earn one Gas Rewards point for every dollar spent at Giant stores with their Giant card. Now, a $20 pharmaceutical co-pay earns customers 20 points while a $50 pharmacy purchase earns customers 50 points.

This new addition to the Gas Rewards program will allow customers to earn more points quickly. Giant pharmacy customers simply present their Giant card to the pharmacy associate when picking up prescriptions in order to automatically gain Gas Rewards points.

"The Giant team is continually developing ways to help our customers stretch their dollars and lighten economic burdens," said Robin Michel, president of Giant Food of Landover, Md. "We thank Shell for their continued support in the Gas Rewards initiative and their commitment to lower transportation costs for Giant customers."

Gas Rewards points both from grocery and pharmacy payments will automatically be added to a shopper's Giant card and will be reflected on the shopper's receipt and at the pump. In addition, customers can look online at the "My Giant" section at www.GiantFood.com to monitor how many Gas Rewards points they have earned.

Customers may redeem their points at Giant gas stations and participating Shell stations by swiping their participating Giant card, manually entering their card number, or by entering their alternate ID at the pump, which will instantly initiate the price drop.

Giant Food LLC, headquartered in Landover, Md., operates 180 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs approximately 22,000 associates. Included within the 180 stores are 163 full-service pharmacies. Giant is owned by Ahold USA Inc.
