Kum & Go Helps Embrace Iowa 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund

Krause Gentle Foundation pledges $100,000, stores sell logo pin-ups

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go LC and the Krause Gentle Foundation have pledged a $100,000 contribution to the Embrace Iowa 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. Kum & Go is also selling Embrace Iowa logo pin-ups in 250 stores throughout Iowa, Omaha, Neb., and Sioux Falls, S.D., for $1 with proceeds going to Embrace Iowa.

The 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund is housed and administered by the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation on behalf of statewide disaster recovery and relief from this year's historic flooding and tornadoes.

"Kum & Go was founded in Iowa, and we are still headquartered [image-nocss] in Iowa after 50 years, so we are here to support Iowans impacted by the flooding," said Kyle J. Krause, president and CEO of Kum & Go. "It was a simple decision for Kum & Go and the Krause Gentle Foundation to donate to the cause. And because we have numerous store locations throughout the area, we are able to reach out a little further to ask our customers to help their fellow Iowans and the Iowa community as well."

The sale of Embrace Iowa logo pin-ups in Kum & Go stores will continue thru mid-August. The pin-up sale proceeds will be contributed to Embrace Iowa in early September.

"We're very appreciative of the donation from Kum & Go," said Iowa Disaster Collaborative Co-Chair Barry Griswell. "This money will be combined with the more than $5 million already raised from individuals, companies and business leaders from all over the state. It's going to be a long-term recovery for those who were hit hard by this year's weather disasters. The Embrace Iowa campaign is designed to fill unmet needs and we hope that the generosity of Kum & Go will inspire other Iowa corporations to help out in whatever way possible."

The Embrace Iowa 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund was established to receive contributions from individuals, businesses and organizations to benefit Iowans who have experienced significant hardship as a result of the storms and floods of 2008. The Fund's purpose is to promote private sector contributions from many of Iowa's premier leaders and businesses, as well as to seek funds outside of Iowa. The goal is to raise as much money as possible to help Iowa individuals, businesses and communities recover fully from the flood and storm damage they have experienced.
