All RaceTrac stores in eight metro marketsAtlanta, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami and Dallasparticipated in the campaign.
According to the American [image-nocss] Red Cross, the donation will provide tents, hygiene packs, blankets, cooking sets and water containers for more than 5,000 people.
"We had over 45 employees directly affected by the tragedy in Haiti," said Allison Moran, a senior vice president at RaceTrac. "To be able to donate such a significant amount to the American Red Cross on their behalf says a lot about our customers. They are the ones who made this donation possible. They are the reason families in Haiti will have ability to cook and serve food, to have clean drinking water, to sleep protected from the elements."
Atlanta-based RaceTrac said its customers responded so positively to the call for action that unit sales were up nearly 10% over the same three-day period from the week prior.
A similar campaign in December 2009 allowed RaceTrac to donate more than $28,500 to Camp Sunshine, an Atlanta organization committed to enriching the lives of children with cancer and their families through recreational, educational and support programs.
