Sheetz Gets WWD Award

Women's Wear Daily recognizes top community service-oriented retailers

NEW YORK -- Sheetz Inc. was honored earlier this week when it received the Women's Wear Daily/ExecTech Retail Community Service Award at Gotham Hall in New York City.

The awards are given annually by WWD, a national apparel industry magazine, to five top companies across the country to celebrate and showcase retailers' long history of involvement in and support of worthy causes such as enhancing education, youth outreach and caring for the ill.

Vice president of operations Travis Sheetz and director of brand development Colleen [image-nocss] Devorris traveled to New York to accept the award.

Sheetz was chosen from among dozens of companies in recognition of its leadership in community service. We are certainly very proud to be acknowledged in this way on a national level, said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the Altoona, Pa.-based chain, which operates 320 stores across six states. It's nice to know our efforts are appreciated, and we'll continue to try and do good work for our communities.

Along with the award, Sheetz was featured in an article in the January 11 edition of WWD.

The award ceremony was attended by more than 200 retail executives in town for the National Retail Federation (NRF) conference. Fellow award winners included Mervyns, The Sac, QVC and LilyAnn's Lingerie.
