Sheetz Offers Rewards Debit Card Powered by Tempo

Web platform enables shoppers to earn discounts on gasoline, cash-back opportunities
ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc., with more than 380 locations across six states, is now offering customers a Tempo-powered rewards debit card that links to consumers' existing checking accounts. The Sheetz Rewards Debit Cards are issued by Tempo partner First Bank & Trust of Brookings, S.D., part of Fishback Financial Corp., and can be used everywhere Discover cards are accepted.

Shoppers using the Sheetz Rewards Debit Card for purchases at Sheetz locations will earn discounts on gasoline purchases, as well as cash back for purchases at millions of other retailers nationwide. [image-nocss] Sheetz is using Tempo's Web-based debit card platform to offer its own branded debit cards and provide a web portal for consumers to apply for and activate cards, as well as track purchases and rewards.

Every time customers use the Sheetz Rewards Debit Card at a Sheetz location, they will earn a discount of two cents per gallon off at the pump on their next gasoline purchase.

"Debit cards increasingly are the preferred payment choice of customers and we know they value rewards for purchases, so we're very pleased to offer this innovative debit card," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for the retailer. "Tempo has consistently advanced the use of affinity debit cards and its technology along with the Discover payment network makes our program very easy to implement and convenient for our customers."

San Mateo, Calif.-based Tempo is a leading provider of co-branded debit cards that can be used on a major payment network for online purchases, offline purchases and ATM withdrawals. Its software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology makes it easy for companies to offer rewards debit cards and provide the ability to link an independent branded debit card to a customer's existing checking account, it said.

"Sheetz has long been an innovator in the convenience store business and will be able to leverage Tempo's debit-card technology to generate and reward customer loyalty," said Tempo CEO Mike Grossman. "[The] web-based program enables businesses to quickly and easily offer affinity debit cards, and for consumers to select a debit card that is aligned with the organization and rewards of their choice."

Working with First Bank & Trust, Tempo manages all aspects of card issuance, including risk management, application processing, card fulfillment, authorization and settlement.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz more than 13,000 employees at more than 380 locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
