SSG employees collected $1 and $5 shamrock donations from their customers over five weeks totaling $53,900. The campaign concluded on St. Patrick's Day--March 17. This year, all the customer donations in March were matched by the Burt Nordstrand Family Fund. That matching contribution added $20,000 to the SSG total contribution of $73,900.
SSG [image-nocss] owner Burt Nordstrand was pleased with the 2011 MDA campaign: "We are grateful for the exceptional efforts of our employees and the generous support of our customers in this annual benefit to help those impacted by muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases."
Nordstrand said the matching donation from the Burt Nordstrand Family Fund was intended to honor the 40th anniversary of SSG.
SSG is headquartered in Hudson, Wis., and is the owner and operator of convenience food stores, gasoline stations and liquor stores in northwestern Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. The company was formed in July, 1971 and is owned by Burt Nordstrand and his family. Its 40 stores are operated under the Holiday brand and the company-owned Auto Stop and Northland Liquors brands.
The Burt Nordstrand Family Fund is a part of the St. Croix Valley Foundation.
