Stewart's Shops Shows Spirit of Giving

Chain kicks off Holiday Match

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart's Shops will match individual donations made to Stewart's Holiday Match in all its shops from Thanksgiving until Christmas. All funds raised go to charities; no administrative costs are deducted. Last holiday season the company totaled more than $1.1 million given to local children's charities.

"We're looking forward to another successful season," said Stewart's Foundation president Susan Law Dake.

The purpose of Holiday Match is to encourage individual giving and broaden the base of [image-nocss] support for local charities. Stewart's Holiday Match is a 501c3 foundation; all donations are tax-deductible. Stewart's gladly accepts funds from groups or businesses, but matches individual donations only.

"It's a two part program," said Dake. "Our goal is to bring donations in and get applications out to children's groups in need of funds." Local organizations benefiting kids can pick up an application throughout the holidays at any Stewart's Shop. The deadline for submission is January 31, 2008.

All groups applying must be locally based, benefit children under 18 and be a qualified, charitable 501c3 organization. A brochure will be available throughout the holidays at Stewart's Shops listing all 1,060 children's organizations in the 30-county area that received funds last season.

Since 1986, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart's Shops and its customers have raised nearly $10 million for local organizations benefiting children year round.
