Top 10 Truckstops According to Trucker Path App

Independents vs. major chains: Who rules the road, and where?

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- The Busy Bee truckstop in Live Oak, Fla., took the “best of the best” designation in Trucker Path’s survey of driver ratings to determine the best truckstops, as well as which states have the best locations. Trucker Path recently looked at 3,500 truckstops that had ratings of more than 5.0 within its Trucker Path Pro mobile app to determine the ranking.

It looked at a total of more than 71,000 ratings.

In general, it found that the independent truckstops outranked major chains. With more than 21,000 reviews across 1,500 locations, independents scored a high 3.89—slightly more than the average major chain ranking of 3.73.

When it comes to major chains, Petro Stopping Centers claimed the top spot with an average rating of 3.92. Petro’s sister chain TA did not score quite as well, with a 3.6 average. The same split occurs with Flying J, which edged out its sister chain Pilot by 0.1 point.

  10. Mobil, Little Chute, Wis.

Trucker Path looked at the reviews and found several recurring themes. Along with good diesel prices, drivers like places with lots of parking. Cleanliness is also key, along with nice bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Users also rave about stops with lots of restaurant options, especially those that include healthy choices. They often note scales as nice to have, as are ATMs and free Wi-Fi.

It also looked at which state was most likely to have good truckstops. With an average score of 4.20, Wisconsin grabs the top spot for highest average rating among states with more than 1,000 reviews. Meanwhile, although Vermont doesn’t have as many reviews as Wisconsin, its truckstops rate at 4.40 out of 5.0, on average. Texas has the most reviews and location pins in the Trucker Path Pro app by a wide margin. The Lone Star State has 327 facilities with at least 5.0 reviews, and it boasts a grand total of 6,600 truck driver ratings. The average rating for a truckstop in Texas is 3.68.
