Wilson Farms to Kick Off Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Event

Retailer presents check for Light the Night; launches paper balloon campaign to benefit hospitals
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Paul and Karen Nanula, chairpersons of the Western & Central New York Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk, will present a check from Wilson Farms for funds collected through several fundraising efforts that supported the Light The Night Walks, which took place this past fall.

They will present this check at the Chapter's Corporate Recruitment Event tonight. Community leaders from more than 50 corporations will gather with the Nanula's to discuss sponsorship opportunities for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2010 [image-nocss] Light The Night Walk.

Light The Night is the Society's nationwide fundraising walk that celebrates and commemorates lives touched by cancer. Participants who raise funds will carry red illuminated balloons, while cancer patients and survivors will light the path with white illuminated balloons. Gold balloons are carried in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

The 12th annual Light The Night Walk will take place on September 24 at Delaware Park. Funds raised through corporate and individual donations will go to support programs of blood cancer research, local patient aid, advocacy, education, and community service.

"This was a success thanks to the incredible support offered by the community, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society volunteers and staff, Wilson Farms customers and our Associates," said Paul Nanula, president and CEO of Wilson Farms and chair of the 2009 Light the Night Walks. "We are honored to again be a part of this year's fundraisers and want to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for everyone who has supported The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We couldn't have done it without them and we look forward to another successful year."

Separately, Wilson Farms on March 11 launched its paper balloon campaign to benefit Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Customers can stop into any Erie/Niagara Wilson Farms locations and purchase a paper balloon for $1 with 100% of the proceeds going to Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo. The four-week campaign will end on April 3.

This is the fourth year Wilson Farms has partnered with Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo to raise funds for vital hospital equipment. Since its initial involvement in 2007, Wilson Farms and its customers have donated more than $47,000 to the hospital through this balloon campaign.

Wilson Farms currently owns and operates 188 Wilson Farms, Sugar Creek and Wilson Farms Xpress convenience store and gas station locations across New York state. The company currently employs more than 2,500 people, and is headquartered in Williamsville, N.Y.
