FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- Jelly Belly Candy Co. has introduced two new package sizes for quick-turn sales. Jelly Belly jelly beans are now available in convenient Checkout Bags designed for display at the cash register, as well as in vending machines. The new "envelope" bag is sized perfectly for snacking and lays flat in its caddy to fit in well at checkout.
A 1.45-oz bag of Kids Mix, a collection of kids' favorite flavors, and a 1.2-oz. bag of Very Cherry Jelly Belly Jelly Bean Chocolate Dips now join the 1.45-oz. Jelly Belly 20 Flavors bag that the company introduced last year.
Jelly Belly said it sees great potential to drive sales by positioning its products at checkout with other similarly-sized items such as candy bars and gum.
The Jelly Belly Kids Mix was selected by kids, for kids and includes favorites such as Very Cherry, Green Apple and Watermelon. To determine the most popular flavors among children, Jelly Belly surveyed hundreds of children and incorporated the group's opinion into the development of a collection of these 20 flavors.
Jelly Belly Jelly Bean Chocolate Dips have been a popular item since breaking into the candy scene in 2010. The world's first chocolate-covered jelly beans are now available in a snack size, perfect for displaying at the checkout counter.
Checkout Bags from Jelly Belly ship in 24-count caddies, two caddies per case. Boxes have removable headers so the products can be displayed on any shelf height.
The company also has added the Gummi Pet Cockroach in a 1.5-oz. package to the Jelly Belly Pet Gummi line.
In June, Jelly Belly will welcome Gummi Pet Cockroach to the Pet family, which also includes Pet Rat, Pet Gator, Pet Dinosaur and Pet Tarantula.
Through a specially-devised process, the Pet Cockroach is created with two different flavors. The legs of this Gummi are a different flavor than the body. The result is three combinations: Blackberry and Cherry, Grape and Lime, and Orange and Blackberry.
Each cockroach is also packed with a Fun Facts card that includes trivia about these crawling critters.
And debuting at Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, Jelly Belly, under license from Sunkist Growers, has unveiled the new all-natural Sunkist line of fruit jells in contemporary packaging. With natural ingredients and new flavors, Sunkist now addresses the trend of candy made with natural flavors and coloring. Along with new, natural ingredients are also two new flavors: Dark Chocolate Raspberry Sticks and the new flavor Blueberry joins the Fruit Gems lineup. Natural ingredients can be found throughout the entire product line, including Sunkist Dark Chocolate Orange Sticks, the new Sunkist Dark Chocolate Raspberry Sticks, Sunkist Fruit Gems and Sunkist Orange Slices.
"We expect the new, natural approach to the Sunkist line to energize the collection and expand its consumer appeal," said Rob Swaigen, vice president of marketing for Jelly Belly. "The use of natural ingredients makes it appealing to a larger audience."
He said that the natural ingredients inspired a new look for the entire line: "Clean lines, crisp photography and modern colors visually communicate the all-natural ingredients inside."
Dark Chocolate Orange and Raspberry Sticks are made with real fruit purees and juices to provide the intense flavor without artificial colors. A popular fruit to pair with chocolate, Raspberry is a new flavor addition to this line of chocolate-covered sticks.
Fruit Gems and Orange Slices are also made with all natural ingredients, like real fruit purees and juices. Fruit Gem flavors include Pink Grapefruit, Raspberry, Orange, Lemon and the new flavor, Blueberry. Jelly Belly also introduces an easier-to-eat size for the Orange Slices, modeled after a miniature orange wedge.
Dark Chocolate Orange and Raspberry Sticks are available in a 2.55-oz. small bag and 2-lb pouch bag. Fruit Gems are available in a 1.65-oz. 5-Piece Bar, 3.1-oz. bag, 6.6-oz. bag and 14-oz. Gift Box. Orange Slices are available in a 3.1-oz. bag and 6.6-oz. bag. The Jelly Belly Sunkist line is peanut free, gluten free, a good source of vitamin C, vegetarian and OU and OUD kosher certified.
