R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Expands Availability of Camel Snus Mint

Smokefree product now being offered in 27 states

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. has expanded its Camel Snus product offering, now available in select retail outlets in a mint style. Camel Snus Mint is the company's latest smokefree tobacco product innovation.

Previously available only in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area since the first quarter of 2011, Camel Snus Mint became available in 27 states beginning on April 2, 2012, the company told CSP Daily News.

The states are Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and New York.

Camel SNUS Mint offers adult tobacco consumers a traditional mint style, with a proprietary blend of various mint flavors. The addition of this style further broadens Camel SNUS's portfolio, with mint being a long-established category in smokeless tobacco.

"As with the national expansion of Camel SNUS, we're taking a deliberate approach to expanding with Camel SNUS Mint, as snus is still a developing market," Reynolds American Inc. spokesperson told CSP Daily News.

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco began its first snus trial in April 2006, with national distribution commencing in January 2009. It launched a national advertising campaign marketing Camel Snus as a potential New Year's Resolution solution for smokers in December 2010. In May 2011, the company launched an advertising campaign for Camel Snus in New York City, timed to coincide with the effective date for the city's smoking ban (see Related Content below for previous coverage).
