Foods described on menus as better for you are perceived as better tasting by the majority of consumers, and a positive spin really ramps up the appeal. According to Technomic’s 2015 Flavor Consumer Trend Report, three-quarters of consumers (76%) agree that positive terms such as “natural flavors” are perceived as resulting in enhanced flavor.
Compare that to the 61% who say negative terms such as “no artificial flavors” increases flavor appeal. As consumers’ wariness of artificial ingredients and additives continues to grow, calling out the natural elements of food items not only increases their health appeal but also flavor perception and potential craveability.
