WAWA, Pa. — Convenience-store retailer Wawa has partnered with certified coffee growers to offer 100% sustainably sourced coffee and espresso-based beverages, the company said.

The beverages, including Wawa’s flagship Reserve Origin coffee, now bear the Rainforest Alliance seal. This means Wawa’s coffee is now made by farms that protect the environment and promote the well-being of workers, their families and their communities.

“From the very beginning, keeping up with consumer trends and customer demand has been part of Wawa’s culture, and we’re proud to provide more flavors, options and solutions than ever before,” said Mike Sherlock, chief product innovation officer for Wawa. “It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to fulfilling lives in 2020, [and] we anticipate serving over 235 million cups of coffee to customers across our markets—more than ever before.”

To promote the accomplishment, Wawa is offering two limited-time offer (LTO) coffees. They include the Guatemala Santa Rosa, a medium roast with aromas of caramelized sugar and baking spices with notes of toasted grains, fruit and a milk finish; and the Sumatra Mandheling, a fair trade, organic coffee with aromas of sweet cedar and baking spices with finishing notes of dried fruit and molasses.

Beyond the LTOs, Wawa has also introduced a new red cup inscribed with positive messages to embody the company’s culture and commitment to serving local friends and neighbors. Wawa is also enhancing its pour bar with new thermal wraps that display the roast intensity for Mild, Medium and Dark Roast coffee varieties.

“We are excited to offer the most varieties ever available, with nine roast blends, 100% sustainable practices and a fun, new red cup design to provide our customers with the best experience possible,” Sherlock said.

Wawa Inc., based in Wawa, Pa., has more than 830 c-stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. The chain is No. 9 in CSP’s 2019 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of company-owned retail outlets.
