Englefield Oil Adds CNG in Ohio

Retailer partners with IGS CNG Services for first of possibly more sites

OBETZ, Ohio --Englefield Oil Co. is getting into the compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling business with an installation at one of its Duchess Shoppes in Obetz, Ohio. The chain is partnering with IGS CNG Services, a developer of CNG fueling locations, which will be building, owning and operating the site.

This marks IGS CNG Services' ninth public station and the first at a Duchess convenience store and gas stastion. Bill Englefield, president of the 123-store chain based in Heath, Ohio, said it likely won't be the last.

"Englefield Oil Co. is pleased to be working with IGS CNG Services to provide another fuel alternative to the public," said Englefield. "CNG is going to be a part of the fuels of the future and we are happy to partner with IGS to provide a convenient fueling location for consumers who prefer this type of fuel for their vehicles. We are hopeful that the Obetz Duchess is just the start of a great partnership with IGS. We anticipate offering this fuel alternative at other Duchess locations around the state of Ohio in the future."

The Obetz Duchess CNG site will serve drivers in the greater Columbus area, and provide a fueling experience very similar to conventional fuels, the company said.

"We'll have two dispensers with two high-flow and two 'fleet'-style hoses," said Dave Mrowzinski, program manager with Dublin, Ohio-based IGS CNG Services. "These dispensers will allow users to plug their CNG vehicle into the dispenser and refuel in the same amount of time it would take to refuel traditional gasoline or diesel vehicles."

IGS CNG Services also has two other Ohio fueling sites under construction in Findlay and Dayton, joining three open CNG stations in Dublin, Orrville and Girard. In West Virginia, IGS has CNG sites in Charleston, Bridgeport and Jane Lew.

"Our goal is to develop CNG infrastructure in the Midwest that serves businesses and individuals utilizing CNG," said Scott White, president and CEO of IGS Energy. "Our plan responds to the emerging market demand for fast, convenient refueling of CNG vehicles. We want to develop the opportunity for customers to travel all over the region while ensuring they can easily find a spot to fuel up with compressed natural gas."

This development of the fueling infrastructure is occurring as two Ohio legislators--State representatives Sean J. O'Brien (D) and Dave Hall (R)--have introduced bills to provide tax incentives for buying natural gas vehicles (NGV) or converting vehicles to run on CNG.

Founded in 1961, Englefield Oil opened its first Duchess Shoppe in Lancaster, Ohio. The family-owned and -operated business sells BP fuels at most of its 123 Duchess Shoppe retail locations, and also supplies fuel and lube.
