PERU, Ill. -- The red trim and Phillips 66 gasoline is on its way out soon at some longstanding Beck Oil stations and convenience stores in North Central Illinois. Other than a color change, operations shouldn't change. This week, a sign outside the Beck's store in Peru informed motorists BP was coming soon, reported The News Tribune.
But it's not going to be an altogether new business. A transformation from red and white to green and yellow should begin in the next week or two, and the E.P. Becker tanker trucks can start bringing in BP fuel then, Princeton-based [image-nocss] Beck Oil Co. of Illinois CFO Loren Owens told the newspaper.
Customers will start noticing offers from BP for the switch from Phillips "proprietary credit cards" soon, said the report.
"They'll notice a change in the look of the canopy fascia. They'll notice a different look at the pumps. They'll be BP colors instead of Phillips colors," Owens said.
The company is in the process of changing over three other stations to BP's fuels and decor, including one in Lincoln, one along Interstate 80 at Geneseo and one in Kewanee. Beck operates 13 convenience stores in Illinois and two in Iowa.
One on U.S. 6 west near the fairgrounds will remain a Phillips station, the report said.
"I think ConocoPhillips puts out a fantastic product, and I think BP has a fantastic product. It's just a business decision we made to pick up BP in addition to the ConocoPhillips, and we will have stations that we own under both of the flags," Owens said.
